Vocational courses include computer applications, electric, masonry, appliance repair, HVAC, carpentry and blueprinting. Vocational training is taught to offenders and offers them a chance to earn a new skill. Inmates at Beckley Federal Correctional Institution are provided educational classes that teach continuing adult education, literacy and give inmates the chance to earn a GED. Many of the inmates at the camp act as a labor force for the main facility, providing services in food, laundry and maintenance. The camp compound houses minimum security male offenders in an open dormitory housing unit. Cell arrangements range from multiple and double occupancy to three single cells in the Special Housing Unit. Inmates are housed in two story buildings that contain two tiers on each floor. The main facility at Beckley FCI is comprised of three four level housing units. Additionally, Beckley FCI utilizes video surveillance, and 24 hour dual roving perimeter patrol. Located on 282 acres, Beckley Federal Correctional Institution is secured by double fences, razor wire, motion detection systems, and microwave detection systems. The facility is comprised of the main unit which houses approximately 1,502 male inmates, and the satellite camp which houses an additional 384 offenders. The Federal correctional Institution at Beckley, also known as Beckley FCI, is a medium security Federal Prison located in Beaver West Virginia, part of Raleigh County.
